This was my first ever science fiction illustration. It was not an actual screen from the book but more of an event that took place off screen, so to speak. I thought the image would make for a striking cover. The challenge was to illustrate the armor being formed between the layers of skin and muscle. Not an easy task. It was also a wrap around so I had to make the painting work as a whole as well as a front cover.
